Aviator Softball Faces Tough Challenge in Doubleheader Against CBC Lady Mustangs

Newport, AR - September 30, 2023 - The Aviator Softball team faced a formidable opponent in a doubleheader against the Central Baptist College (CBC) Lady Mustangs on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at George Kell Park in Newport, AR. The day was not without its historical moments as well, with several "First" awards presented by Dr. Johnny M. Moore, Chancellor of Arkansas State University - Newport, to commemorate significant milestones in ASUN history.
Game 1:
The opening match saw the CBC Lady Mustangs secure a 9-4 victory over the Aviator Softball team. The Lady Mustangs put up a strong offensive performance, particularly in the sixth inning when they scored four runs. Despite the loss, there were notable achievements by the Aviators, including Lyrick Stapleton's first strikeout pitched and first RBI. Sarah Davis was responsible for the first run scored, and Aubrey Weaver secured the distinction of being the first to steal a base. The Aviator's Abbie Lawrence also claimed the first hit of ASUN softball history, and not stopping there, she achieved the first home run.
Game 2:
In the second game, the CBC Lady Mustangs continued their strong performance, ultimately winning 16-8. They maintained consistent scoring throughout the game, securing their victory. While the Aviators faced a tough opponent, they didn't give up, scoring eight runs themselves.
Before the games began, Dr. Johnny M. Moore, Chancellor of Arkansas State University - Newport, had the honor of presenting several "First" awards to players who achieved significant firsts in ASUN softball history:
- Lyrick Stapleton (#15) was recognized for recording the first strikeout pitched and the first RBI.
- Sarah Davis (#21) was acknowledged for scoring the first run in ASUN softball history.
- Aubrey Weaver (#44) received recognition for being the first player to successfully steal a base.
- Abbie Lawrence (#16) made history by claiming both the first hit and the first home run in ASUN softball.
